It’s A Girl! And the other is…maybe a Boy?

It looks like at least one of our foster chicks is a girl!!!
Did you know that a pretty accurate way to tell when they are still so tiny is by their wing feathers as they start to come in?
  • All around the same length feathers/gradual change in length mean the chick is likely a boy.
  • Long front feathers followed by shorter feathers/sharp change in length means you likely have girl!
See this first little one? Im almost certain we have a female!!! And the second picture…this one might be a boy! Time will tell for sure, but that is my {not-a-professional} guess. The other chicks’ feathers are still not quite grown in enough to tell…maybe tomorrow!!
So much fun we are having, and the kids are learning a lot, too! Just like human babies, the second time around having baby chicks is so much more relaxed, and we can really focus on the joy and the experience, knowing we already know how to keep them alive and thriving. What a joy to be able to foster these little cuties!
